What is Sculptra?
Sculptra, a synthetic polymer compound of poly-L-lactic acid, is a re-volumizing agent that restores fullness and contours to correct the signs of facial fat loss due to aging. It is an FDA approved sculpting agent that restores volume to correct the signs of facial fat loss, lipoatrophy, by using a synthetic material called poly-L-lactic acid. Lipoatrophy, or facial fat loss, is the loss of fat beneath the skin, which can result in sunken cheeks, indentations, and hollow eyes. Poly-L-lactic acid does not harm the body and is biodegradable. Sculptra is a bio-activator, not a filler.

Sculptra® provides a significant increase in skin thickness, improving the appearance of folds and sunken areas helping to create a more natural facial appearance for clients versus the traditional fillers alone.
It effectively reduces fine lines, wrinkles, furrows and tissue loss in the face. It also encourages new collagen growth and formation of fibrous tissues that make the complexion look smooth, supple, and youthful, even after the initial filling effect has worn off.
Are the results from Sculptra® immediate?
No. At your first treatment visit, it may appear that Sculptra® worked immediately because of swelling from the injections and the water used to dilute Sculptra®. In a few days, when the swelling goes down and the water is absorbed by your body, you may look as you did before your treatment. Sculptra® takes approximately 4-12 weeks to gradually correct the depression in your skin.
How many treatments are required?
Your healthcare provider will decide the appropriate number of treatment sessions and the amount of Sculptra® you will need at each session.
How long do treatment results last?
Treatment results will differ for each person. In a clinical study, the treatment results lasted for up to 2 years after the first treatment session, in most patients. Touch-up treatments may be needed to maintain the desired effect.
Poly-L-lactic acid is a safe, FDA-approved biodegradable compound that has been used in a wide range of medical devices, including dissolvable sutures, for more than 30 years. Sculptra™ provides a gradual increase in skin thickness by stimulating the growth of collagen. The volume achieved with Sculptra will last about two to three years.
